Tattoo Aftercare

Your guide to proper healing and long-lasting results.

These aftercare instructions are provided to promote proper healing and reduce the risk of infection. All clients must follow these guidelines.

While individual artists may adjust minor details, all procedures must remain within the safety standards outlined in this policy. Failure to follow aftercare instructions may result in infection, poor healing, or damage to the tattoo.

Healing Timeline

Day 1 — Bandage Removal

Standard bandage (pad): Remove as instructed by your artist. Wash immediately after removal (see cleaning instructions below).

Second skin (Saniderm / Tattoo Shield):

  • Do not wear longer than 48 hours maximum
  • Remove earlier if: excessive fluid buildup occurs, edges begin to lift, or irritation / redness / discomfort appears
  • Do NOT reapply second skin unless specifically instructed by your artist

Days 1–3 — Cleaning & First Care

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your tattoo
  • Gently clean the tattoo using lukewarm water and unscented antibacterial soap
  • Use fingertips only — NO washcloths, loofas, or sponges
  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel — do not rub
  • Repeat 2 to 3 times daily
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing over the tattoo area

Moisturizing: After each wash, apply a thin layer of one of the following:

  • Hustle Butter
  • Aquaphor (first 2-3 days only, then switch to unscented lotion)
  • Tattoo-specific aftercare balm
Do not over-moisturize. A thin layer is enough — excess moisture can delay healing.

Week 1 — Flaking & Itching

Your tattoo will begin to flake and itch. This is completely normal.

  • Do NOT scratch, pick, or peel any flaking skin
  • Continue washing 2-3 times daily and applying thin moisturizer
  • Expect mild sensitivity and tightness in the area

Weeks 2–4 — Settling

Your tattoo may appear dull, cloudy, or slightly faded. This is normal — the deeper layers of skin are still healing underneath.

  • Continue moisturizing daily with unscented lotion
  • Avoid direct sun exposure on the tattoo
  • The final look of your tattoo will emerge after full healing

Fully Healed — Long-Term Care

  • Always apply SPF 50+ sunscreen on your tattoo when exposed to the sun
  • Keep the area moisturized regularly
  • UV exposure is the #1 cause of tattoo fading over time — protect your investment
